A Voicethread Mathcast

I'm preparing for a presentation on Mathcasts that I'll be giving at the MACUL conference in March. One of the easiest ways to create a mathcast is with Voicethread. It's even easier when you start with one of the MANY sample math problems that have been created by Tim Fahlberg on his Mathcasts 500 project website: http://math247.pbwiki.com/K-7+Mathcasts+500+Project

Tim has been my mentor throughout this process. We have spoken via Skype or telephone a few times, have emailed each other on numerous occasions, and even collaborated in Google Docs. I am so grateful for his willingness to help this "newbie" to the world of mathcasting.

If you're attending MACUL, I hope you'll attend my session and say hello (there will be door prizes too!). For now, here's a sample mathcast to whet your appetite.

I've been trying to use more mathcasts in my classroom. A couple of weeks ago I even went as far as to have students watch the mathcasts as homework (on our class website or a DVD) and work on the content in class instead of having a worksheet for homework. It seemed effective for some students.

Thanks so much for your comment! I just discovered your NEW class blog. I had subscribed under your old URL, so I added your blog to my Bloglines today. I plan to use your site as an example or model for the teachers who attend my MACUL session. I notice you put your videos on Vimeo. Are there advantages Vimeo has over other sites (like, perhaps, not being blocked by school filters?)?
